Flying Drones Coming to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World

What do flying drones and Walt Disney World have in common? … Disney Springs and a new wave of entertainment!  We all know that Disney is the king of using state-of-the-art technology in its entertainment venues.  Well, here we go again.  It’s official, flying drones are coming to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World this holiday season!

Disney Parks Blog just announced a new light show debuting at the new shopping mecca. They also gave us a sneak peak in a video of a test flight for the new show.

This announcement is on the heels of Walt Disney World being granted the right to fly drones over the resort by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  Disney also applied for a drone-related patent to incorporate in their special effects.  They used the term “Flixels” (flying pixels) in their description for the patent.  It looks like they intend to use Flixels during the nightly fireworks shows in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.  The Flixels will be deployed from a restricted access launching area during the show.  When the show is completed the Flixels will return to that area.

Disney keeps pushing the boundaries of imagination to bring us new, exciting and “magical” experiences.  We can look forward to “looking to the stars” with a new dimension at Disney Springs this holiday season.

F. G. Mama

About the author…F. G. Mama, Katie McDill, has been in love with Walt Disney World since first entering the gates in 1976. After her two kids went off to college, she moved from Georgia to the backdoor of the Magic Kingdom in Florida. She worked several years at Walt Disney World performing as Fairy Godmother in day parades, the “Best of Disney” castle stage show, and the original Electric Light Parade. For the last ten years, she along with daughter and family, have enjoyed “living the dream” in Celebration (the town that Disney built) just across the bridge from Disney World. During this time she has collaborated with son-in-law Jimmy in several production projects including Orlando Attractions Magazine-The Show, The Mindy Mouse Show and FunaticsTV. Her other career included being a writer, artist/designer, special events creator and coordinator. Now she is enjoying the good life of Anna Maria Island, Celebration, Disney World and, of course, sharing magic at FUNaticsTV!
