Purple martins, beautiful little songbirds get their own resort at Disney World. They have traveled 3,000 miles from their winter home in the Brazilian Amazon. They flew all that way to start their family at the most magical place on earth.
According to Dr. Anne Savage , Conservation Director, Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, “Adult birds began arriving in January and have spent the last few weeks perusing all the accommodations at our 19 luxury bird house ‘resorts’ located across Walt Disney World property, and more importantly, sizing up their fellow bird resort-stayers to find a mate! Nearly 100 happy bird couples have already made their selections and have built nests, and we’re excited to announce that a lucky bird couple nesting at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has welcomed the first eggs of the season!”
If you’d like more information about our little visitors, check out the Purple Martins Presented by Audubon Florida at this year’s Epcot Flower & Garden Festival. It’s located in Future World East.
Also, if you’ll be visiting Disney parks and resorts anytime through July, you’ll have the opportunity to get a view of the purple martins in one of their ‘resort’ bird houses at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.
